Balhannah/Oakbank Community Carols 2019 Vocalists
Ashleigh Jocks is a vocalist currently residing in the Adelaide Hills. After graduating from high school in 2015, she gained a position in the Jazz Performance degree at the Elder Conservatorium. In 2018, she received an award for Outstanding Soloist in the international DownBeat Music Awards. She was also named Top Voice Undergraduate at the Helpmann Academy Jazz Awards and performed alongside New York City jazz band “The Hot Sardines” earlier this year. Ashleigh is currently a lead vocalist in the show “Phoenix” produced by Spectak Entertainment which will present in the Adelaide Fringe 2019. Ashleigh is delighted to be part of Balhannah/Oakbank Community Carols again for 2019.
Willow Rist is 15 years old and has been singing all of her life. She has been studying Voice with Lisa Duffield for six years and one of her favourite things is to discover new music. Willow is excited to be a part of the Balhannah/Oakbank Community Carols and is looking forward to singing at the event.
Georgia Malchow is a second year university student with a passion for music, singing and performing. Through school and individually she has been involved in many community events and performances such as the Festival of Music, SAPPS Choir, Mt Gambier’s Generations in Jazz, Team Kids Webathon and the Mt Barker, Callington, Strathalbyn and Balhannah Carols. Whilst studying at university she has kept up with vocal lessons with Lisa Duffield and is in the process of preparing to perform at local venues.
Sophie McCallum is in Year 9 at St Francis de Sales College and has been learning voice with Lisa Duffield for the past five years as well as playing piano. She has been part of JazZone and Musaic at her school and really enjoys singing and performing. Sophie is excited to be singing at Balhannah/Oakbank Carols this year.
Eliza Lovelock is sixteen and studies Music at St Francis de Sales College. As a long-term Choir Captain of JazZone, and member of various ensembles at the college, including Musaic (directed by Lisa Duffield) and Heart’n’Soul (directed by Karen Redman), Eliza thrives in a performance environment. She has studied voice under Lisa Duffield for several years, along with piano, and is aiming towards a future in musical theatre, particularly in comedy. Along with her sister, Tilly, she enjoys performing and working with other people to make a great sound!
Matilda Lovelock is in Year 9 at St Francis de Sales College. A keen Music student, Tilly studies Voice with Lisa Duffield, and is involved in numerous vocal ensembles at the College, including Musaic Senior Vocal and JazZone. She also studies acoustic guitar and plays bass guitar with the St Francis de Sales College ensemble, Mixed Bag, under the guidance of Karen Redman. Formerly a Choir Captain at the College, Tilly has only been singing solo performance in the last eighteen months, and often sings with her sister, Eliza. In the future, Tilly intends to forge a career as a singer/songwriter.
Yvette Hawke feels that life is too unpredictable to not step out of your comfort zone and try something new – which is what led her to audition for Mt Barker Carols in the Park in 2018. She had so much fun at that event that she’s back to sing for you in 2019! Yvette has sung for many years and sings often, with joy and in a variety of styles. Her highlight so far has been singing with the Carols Big Band at Carols in the Park 2018 with Humphrey B Bear by her side! Yvette is delighted to be singing for you at Balhannah/Oakbank Carols 2019.
Lia Klatowsky has been involved with music for most of her life. She started singing with the Adelaide Girls Choir when she was five and continued with the group until she was nineteen. At high school she was very involved with the Music program taking voice lessons with Lisa Duffield and learning guitar. After taking a break from music for a few years, Lia is keen to get involved again and is thrilled to be part of the 2019 Balhannah/Oakbank Community Carols as she dips her toes back into the world of performance.
